About the Emeriti Program

The Emeriti® Program is designed by the higher education community for the higher education community and offers a practical solution to providing for future health care coverage needs. Through your employer, it offers you a new way to fund your health care expenses in retirement and to obtain insurance for many of the health care costs that Medicare doesn't cover.

How the Program Works
The core components of the Emeriti Program are as follows:
(click each Program component for detailed information on how it works)

  • A tax-advantaged way to invest and accumulate assets exclusively to help meet future retiree medical expenses—the Emeriti Health Accounts—with investment choices and administrative services provided by Fidelity Investments®.

  • A specially designed health insurance program for retirees and their dependents that complements Medicare—the Emeriti Health Insurance Plan Options— with multiple options, underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance Company1.

  • An innovative tax-free way to pay for other qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses—the Emeriti Reimbursement Benefit, administered by Acclaris Inc.

The Background
Formed to meet the specific needs of employees of colleges, universities and other higher education-related tax-exempt organizations, the Emeriti Program evolved out of a research project on faculty retirement behavior, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
